Back In My Day…

If you’ve been on social media for pretty much any amount of time (or if you’re my mom, you’ve probably gotten it in a forwarded email), you’ve probably seen the memes that talk about “Back in my day…” and then they end with some sort of comment about how things have changed.

Here’s a good example of one:

I don’t like the tone of this image, but I do like the concept of kids getting outside. Turns out that kids today love outside just as much today as we did back in our day. These piles of dirt provided hours of entertainment for the Crash Kids this weekend:

Who would have thought that even when they have iPads and TVs and Kindles that they’d still love to play with dirt, bricks, wood and sticks? Actually, back in my day we loved it. Why do we think it’s any different today? Maybe it’s because the parents (not the children) don’t want to go out in the dirt.
