Sports Are Awesome…And I Have No Clue Why

I adore sports. I absolutely love everything about it. I love playing them. I love watching them. Yep. I think it’s fair to say that I’m fairly addicted to sports. With that said, I understand my addiction and I do what I can to try and limit its impact on my wife and family. I think Crash Mom would say that it ebbs and flows. I don’t think I’ve done anything too crazy, but I definitely love to consume sports (watching or participating).

Tonight was a great example. BYU was playing Gonzaga (#3 team in the nation). Spoiler Alert: BYU won and it was awesome! The game was pretty stressful as Gonzaga made a few runs, but BYU played well. Plus, the win over Gonzaga should lock BYU into the field of 64 (oh wait…I think they expanded to 68, but whatever, they should be in) for March Madness.

A few times the Crash Wife has tried to understand why I love sports so much. Whenever we have that discussion I usually talk about the story behind the sports. If there’s a good story (ie. BYU has a chance to go to the tournament), then it adds so much to the game. It gives you something or someone to root for (or against on occasion). When it’s not my time, the storyline is usually me rooting for the underdog. It makes it fun.

Maybe that’s all there is to it. It’s fun. Why is it fun? I don’t know and I’m not sure I care. I enjoy it thoroughly. I try to make it so it doesn’t rule my life, but I love that it is a part of my life. I love competition. Maybe that’s the other reason I love sports. Either way, I’m still on the high after the big BYU win. That’s something I love.

I Might Need to Start Yoga

I have to admit. I’ve always kind of made fun of Yoga. I wasn’t against other people doing it. I’m all about freedom of choice and if you want to do Yoga, go for it. I think Colin Cowherd, a radio personality on ESPN Radio, summed it up best: “Only in America could we turn stretching into an entire industry.

Now that I’ve offended all those that really love Yoga, I think there might be something to Yoga. The older I get, the more aches and pains I have in my body. As most of you know, I’m still very active, but that just adds to the aches and pains. I still love to lay out for a disc when I’m playing ultimate frisbee. I love to lay out to dig a volleyball. The older I get, the harder it is to recover from the abuse I’m putting on my body.

No wonder stretching Yoga is so popular. Seriously though. The older I get, the more I think that Yoga could be a really great thing for me. I don’t need to do anything crazy. I just think my body would really love doing Yoga.

Now I just have to bring myself to find a studio or somewhere that I can learn to do it. We just signed up for a new health insurance plan that provides us access to the health and wellness services that Turntable Health offers. I just checked their schedule and it looks like they offer a Gentle Yoga class with Chidimma Ozor (Seriously, our health insurance is covering Yoga). Can you imagine a better name for a yoga instructor?

Looks like I’ll be finding a Yoga mat and giving it a try. We’ll see what Chidimma can do for me. You can be sure I’ll report back on the experience.
